The town of Paducah, county seat of McCracken County in Kentucky, has a population bordering 25,000 and boasts its own racecourse at Bluegrass Downs. The track held its inaugural meeting on Wednesday 3rd October 1984. The management initially just offered a programme of quarter horse races from Wednesday through to Sunday, before switching to thoroughbreds in 1993. By 1998 it had switched again to harness races, albeit on just 3 occasions annually. Races are run on a 5 furlong oval track with a separate 6 furlong chute, both sharing a 182 metre run in.
